Top Ten Tuesday is hosted at the The Broke and the Bookish.  Each week they pick a new topic.

These are the ten books that I can remember being forced to read in school.

  1. The Catcher in Rye by J. D. Salinger
  2. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
  3. For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway – Took me a long time to get through this one.  That’s almost all I remember about it.
  4. Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare
  5. Hamlet by Shakespeare
  6. Moby Dick by Herman Melville
  7. The Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein
  8. The Berenstain Bears by Stan Berenstain
  9. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens – One of my favorites.
  10. The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe – I loved this story.

Top Ten Tuesday – The Best and Worst Series Enders

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted at the The Broke and the Bookish.  Each week they pick a new topic.

The Worst:

  1. Break You (Andrew Z. Thomas/Luther Kite #3) by Blake Crouch – I hate it when the author doesn’t tie up the loose ends.  There was a lot left unexplained in this book.  And the stories that he wrote with Jack Kilborn just glossed over these characters.   Otherwise the series was great.
  2. Ominous (Private #13) by Kate Brian – Technically, this is not the last book in the series, but I haven’t read the very last one.  I am disappointed in the direction the last books of the series went.
  3. Seeds of Yesterday (Flowers in the Attic #5) by V. C. Andrews –  I re-read the Flowers in the Attic series because I read the first three books as a teen and never finished.  The series wasn’t bad for being V. C. Andrews, but enough is enough.

Break You (Andrew Z. Thomas/Luther Kite Series - Book 3)Ominous (Private, #13)Seeds of Yesterday (Dollanganger, #4)

The Best:

  1. The MacGregor’s by Nora Robert –  I loved this whole series.
  2. Doctor Sleep (The Shining #2) – loved the sequel to one of my favorite books.
  3. Mockingjay (Hunger Games #3) by Suzanne Collins – one of my favorite series.

Three Series That I’m Looking Forward To:

  1. Privilege by Kate Brian
  2. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia
  3. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

Book Beginnings and Friday 56 – 9/27/13

Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City Reader. The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda’s Voice.    I noticed these memes and thought it would be interesting to do both.  Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week.  This is the book I’m currently reading.

Book of Spells by Kate Brian

Book Beginnings:

Even at the tender age of sixteen, Elizabeth Williams was the rare girl who knew her mind.  She knew she preferred summer to all other seasons.  She knew she couldn’t stand the pink- and yellow- floral wallpaper the decorator had chosen for her room.  She knew that she would much rather spend time with her blustery, good-natured father than her ever-critical, humorless mother – though the company of either was difficult to come by.  And she knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that going away to Billings School for Girls was going to be the best thing that ever happened to her.

Friday 56:

“I told you that you should have turned back.” the same low voice from the tunnel whispered.  Eliza’s breath caught and she whirled around.  But no one was there.
